The topic of the March 12th meeting was the Park Forestry Program of the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond. A panel of speakers discussed the specifics of this portion of the bond, as well as the importance of our urban forest overall. Panel discussion was followed by a Q&A session.
Many of our urban trees have not received major physical attention since their initial planting, and it is crucial to assess their condition and prepare a plan for their care, which will be enabled by this $4-million bond project.
Featured speakers:
Karen Mauney-Brodek, RPD Planning Division
Suzanne Whelan, Friends of the Urban Forest
Mei Ling Hui, Department of the Environment
At the beginning of the meeting, Dawn Kamalanathan of the Recreation and Park Department Planning Division briefly presented the RFP process for clubhouses that are not currently providing programming. This RFP process is part of recent changes to the recreation program made by the Department. Dawn also solicited feedback on what types of programming attendees wanted to attract to these spaces.
