Crocker-Amazon Soccer Fields Grand Re-Opening 9.21.08
On September 21, 2008, community members of all ages came out to enjoy warm weather, great music and food, and the re-opening of the soccer fields at Crocker Amazon Park, sponsored by the City Fields Foundation. Hundreds of folks checked out the newly installed fields, enjoyed the rocking sounds of Loco Bloco, visited a dribble zone set up by the San Jose Earthquakes, played games, and some even won great prizes.
Recreation and Parks Department staff were on hand to celebrate, along with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Neighborhood Parks Council, Friends and Advocates of Crocker Amazon and the Excelsior (FACE), Sports For Kids, Sports4Good, and local businesses.
Access to playfields has been a major issue in the city, which makes the installation of these fields at Crocker Amazon especially important. Through the hard work of the City Fields Foundation, the Recreation and Parks Department, and the Neighborhood Parks Council, the community will now be able to enjoy increased playing time, even during the rainy months.
Various activities that day helped to keep everyone engaged. Younger children enjoyed a magic show and story telling. Older youth played soccer and other sports, and adults got a chance to find out about the great work that park groups like FACE do in the park. Everyone enjoyed the music and dance of Loco Bloco. Overall, the event was a great success, and it is apparent that the community’s love for Crocker-Amazon will only increase going forward.
