Leaving a Lake Legacy
with Katie Pilat, Hydrologist, NPC

Native Americans were not passive stewards of the land. They conducted controlled burns and propagated plants. The Ohlone were water loving people. They lived near rivers and close to the shores of our bay, lakes, and ocean. Over 10,000 Ohlone were supported by our city’s natural resources.

Growing Greener School Grounds Conference
A District Park Planning Seminar

In the fall of 2002, the San Francisco Green Schoolyard Alliance hosted the first annual Growing Greener School Grounds Conference, a workshop-style event that brought together approximately 200 teachers and community members from all over the San Francisco Bay Area to learn more about creating, using, and sustaining "ecological schoolyards."
