2010 Playground Report Card Released at Play Day

pgreportcoverApril 8, 2010, San Francisco: The 2010 San Francisco Playground Report Card was released at Play Day at McLaren Park. The report grades the 130+ public playgrounds in San Francisco for safety and maintenance. Local playground advocates Meredith Thomas, NPC Executive Director, Phil Ginsburg, General Manager of the Recreation and Park Department, and Supervisor John Avalos joined community volunteers and local children at Play Day to celebrate the new Report Card. Click here for photos from Play Day!

“The Playground Report Card is a wonderful communication tool that helps us all understand how well we are meeting the needs of young children and families in San Francisco,” said Meredith Thomas, NPC Executive Director. “At the Neighborhood Parks Council, we believe that every child deserves a playground near their home where they can play safety and make friends. The Report Card helps us prioritize our advocacy and organizing work so that we  can direct resources to the playgrounds that need the most attention.”

Another Failing Playground is Replaced!
Lincoln Park Playground reopens after renovation

wide%20good

Lincoln Park Playground received an F grade in NPC's 2006 and 2008 Playground Report Card. The playground had simply lived out its lifespan. Swings chains were rusty, the metal slide bed was corroded, the wooden equipment was worn and the sand was dirty. The Playground Initiative and the Friends of Lincoln Park Playground held two workdays at the site in 2008 to keep the playground safe and clean until the Friends' dream of a complete renovation could be realized.

On Friday, April 23rd, the newly renovated Lincoln Park Playground opened to the public. Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg and Supervisor Eric Mar joined the Friends of Lincoln Park Playground and hundreds of local children and parents for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Congratulations to all those who advocated for the playground and made this incredible transformation possible!
