The following topic areas are meant to be general guidelines for prospective interns. NPC aims to match our current program needs with the skills, interests and experience of prospective interns in order to create customized internship experiences that mutually benefit the intern and our organization.
Information Technology/Website DevelopmentAssist NPC in the development and maintenance of its web site and database. Support NPC and community parks groups in utilizing the full potential of their technological resources. Teach workshops to parks groups on creating websites for their parks.
Increasing Neighborhood Involvement and Input
Work with a park group to analyze its neighborhood's needs and make a plan for greater community involvement in the park. Assist with plan implementation, through outreach on the web, neighborhood media and resident awareness.
Mapping
If you have experience working with GIS, you can help us create maps that explain visually the current population trends in San Francisco. These maps are invaluable in the strategic planning process. You would create a variety of population concentration maps, green space and land usage maps.Community Organizing and Outreach
Help us to discover alternative outreach methods and to improve our outreach to groups we are not currently engaging. Perform internet searches to help us link with organizations and websites we may not be aware of. Help us target particular neighborhoods and communities we are not currently working with effectively. Develop an outreach plan for various San Francisco communities: report on the media in that community, the needs of that community (where they relate to the mission of NPC) and the most effective means of accessing community leaders.Parks/Recreation
Work with park groups to evaluate the needs of their community and pose projects/programs for improvements in their parks and recreation facilities including researching capital improvements.
Public Art/Playground Design
Coordinate community art projects in parks. Examples could include murals, sculpture, the use of recycled materials, tile painting, sidewalk art, signage, and artist-in-residence programs.
Landscape Architecture
Assist park groups by creating landscape plans and generating graphics representing their parks and the issues that concern them.
Graphic Arts/Marketing
The intern will apply creative skills to assist NPC and/or various community parks groups to design publications such as newsletters, outreach materials, community surveys, park signage, etc.

Are you fluent in another language? Help us to outreach to your community! Translate surveys, flyers and survey responses.
