“The Stewardship Awards are an opportunity to bring our park groups into the spotlight and pay tribute to their efforts," says Isabel Wade, Executive Director of the Neighborhood Parks Council. “Without the extra help of volunteers, our parks would be in a sorry state.” Each year more than 100 park groups throughout San Francisco work tirelessly to improve their neighborhood parks. Activities range from weed pulling, litter pick-up, and planting to fundraising for park improvements. The 2006 sponsors are McKesson Corporation, Wells Fargo, and the Moore Foundation.
The panel judges were:
1) Betty Traynor, Friends of Boeddeker Park
2) Dee Dee Workman, Executive Director, SF Beautiful
3) Kelly Quirke, Executive Director, Friends of the Urban Forest
4) Peter Vaernet, Friends of Brooks Park
5) Cathy Merrill, President of Merrill Morris Partners, Inc, Landscape Architects and Planners
6) Slobodan Dan Paich, Director, Artship Dance/Theater.
