Success Stories

Shotwell Street | Rolph Garden | Boeddeker Park | 24th Street Mini Park

Do you have a park-related success story? Tell us about it at council@sfnpc.org.

1.Shotwell Street

Jane Martin, who lives on Shotwell Street in the Mission, has created a beautiful green spot along her sidewalk. Apparently, its legal to tear up some of that concrete and do a little greening! Jane agreed to help others wanting to do something similar in their neighborhoods - if anyone is interested in carrying out a similar project, contact Jane at janemartin@shiftdesignstudio.com

2. Rolph Community Garden
Before
After

Budding Efforts at Rolph Community Garden.
This spring, Rolph Neighborhood Association and kids from Good Samaritan planted seeds that are now in full summer bloom! The garden is already achieving what we hoped: it's bringing more neighbors to the park.

One parent told us, "I never wanted to come here until I saw the garden. Now I come all the time." If you have any plants to donate to the garden, please contact Karla Melara, Good Samaritan at kmelara@hotmail.com.

3. 24th Street Mini Park

24th St. Mini Park Mosaic Sidewalk Mural Project. Directed by Precita Eyes Muralists with
Lower 24th St. Neighborhood Association.

$50,000 was granted to 24th Street Mini Park Association by the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services.

4. Boeddeker Park

Volunteers from Presentation Senior Community next door to Boeddeker Park in
the Tenderloin came out for a "Senior Greening Day" Wednesday morning,
August 4, at the park. They were joined by Rec Director Rob McDaniels and
later Mayor Gavin Newsom. They plan to make this a monthly event.
