Update on the Future of Warm Water Cove Park

The Central Waterfront is the subject of a San Francisco Planning Department proposal to rezone historic industrial land for increased residential density. Warm Water Cove Park is one of the few open spaces along the Central Waterfront and a key element in the Blue Greenway.

The long-term fate of this park, which is isolated from neighbors, depends on community stewardship. Neighborhood Parks Council, SPUR and the Port of San Francisco are looking for community input into future uses for the Park. The Piero Patri Foundation has awarded a fellowship to an urban planner, Mike Ernst, who is developing a conceptual plan for the park.

We would appreciate your taking the time to complete a survey (click here to download it) telling us what uses you would like to see at Warm Water Cove. Please fill out the survey and email it to: Corinne Woods, Blue Greenway Coordinator: cwoods@sfnpc.org.

There has also been substantial debate about “spray can art”, and interest in the possibility of having an art mural depicting waterfront labor activities on the Sheedy Drayage Company fence around the south and east sides of the park. Sheedy would have to give permission for a mural to be painted, but they have expressed interest in the concept.

If you are interested in being included in the planning for a mural, please email Corinne Woods (cwoods@sfnpc.org) with your contact information (name, email and phone number) and we will let you know when the first community meeting will be held.
